Dear Friend,
Last month, American voters made history in electing a new President whose campaign identified healthcare reform as a key priority. Many senators and representatives who will make up the 111th Congress also called for major changes in the health care system during their campaigns.
Now the real work begins. As he prepares to take office, President-elect Barack Obama faces many pressing issues. And some will urge him to defer efforts to achieve healthcare reform, suggesting that it will be too costly, too difficult, or not a sufficiently high priority. Click the link to send the digital postcard to President-elect Obama and tell him that you want him to make healthcare reform a top priority in 2009.

We have a historic opportunity to reform our health care system. The public wants it. Our leaders have called for it. And while we concur that the nation’s economic health demands critical attention, our economic problems make reform even more urgent because of their impact on people’s health and well-being and the alarming extent to which people can no longer afford needed care. Economic insecurity and health care insecurity have become intertwined, and we cannot afford to address one to the exclusion of the other.

This is a challenging time for our country, but it is also a time of opportunity. And just as the collective effort of American voters made history, our collective voices can help ensure that our leaders make meaningful health reform a key domestic priority. As we continue our work to make mental health a national priority and expand access to care, we hope you will continue your vital advocacy efforts.
P.S. Please be sure to forward this message to your friends so they, too, can write President-elect Obama!
