Mental Health America - Survey Series

50th Anniversary Survey

Mental Health America is joining this week in recognizing the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy's signing of the Community Mental Health Act, a landmark bill that changed the course of mental health policy by promoting community-based services over institutionalization. Mental Health America played a key role in having this legislation enacted.

President Kennedy's historic call to action in 1963 that led to the law was based on a belief that all Americans – including those with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, and addictions – have the right to lead dignified lives and to share in the beliefs of our society.

Let us know what you think about the progress we've made -- and where we need to go!
