Alan,
Today Audrey told me she is very concerned about bullying at school, and how it can make somebody depressed, and even make the person not want to live anymore. She wants to take action at her school about this, and wanted me to give her ideas about how to do it. I am so proud of her, and I know you are, too. We love you so much, and we will try to turn our family's grief into blessing for others who are struggling with depression. Please watch over us until we are together again. Your loving wife, Janet

I shared wonderful times with Alan in college and beyond, and he was a kind and gentle man. I will remember both his music (that brought a smile to my face) and his struggle to make sense of this world.

Dear Janet,
What a lovely tribute to an obviously wonderful man! Reading about Alan's life gave me a sense that I would have very much enjoyed this very talented man. I am so sorry for your loss and will keep you and your girls in my thoughts and prayers.
Although I cannot attend Alan's services, I will be there in spirit and friendship. Hold your girls extra tight for they will bring you strength and comfort.
