Dearly beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend
Always in our hearts

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Cuidate amigo.
Te quiero
Un abrazo fuerte
Rafa.
- Rafael Jose Garcia Sanchez

------------------

Carlos Roberto was a wonderful friend, always kind and always solicitous. He was the most intellectually engaged person that I have known, mastering engineering, economics, literature, theater, and philosophy. He was not only a polyglot, but he immersed himself in the cultures of the languages that he was learning. I was delighted that he chose to take a graduate seminar on DON QUIXOTE from me at Indiana University and honored when he asked me to serve as an outside member of his dissertation committee at Columbia. I was very proud of the dissertation per se and of his performance at the defense, in which I participated by telephone. I will never forget Carlos Roberto's energy, enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge, sense of humor, and good will. Susan and I will think of him fondly, and we will maintain a place in our hearts for him and for his loving family.
